SENIOR METALLURGIST

Reporting to the Processing Manager the Senior Metallurgist will be responsible for managing all metallurgical activities for technical reviews, process design applications, process reports and advise management on metallurgical issues, while ensuring safety of all under their supervision. 

The key roles and accountabilities include:

• Oversee the metallurgy section to achieve strategic objectives and maximum throughput.
• Develop short, medium and long term treatment plans to ensure plant availability and optimization.
• Consult production and maintenance personnel in relation to relevant schedules.
• Monitor plant performance and analyze data to provide performance trends and report and make recommendations to the Processing Manager based on these trends.
• Optimize, maintain, and upgrade the plant control systems as required.
• Ensure that all instrumentation is operating at the required level and ensure calibration is completed on a timely basis.
• Investigate all process failures and develop and implement solutions to prevent recurrences.
• Assist the Processing Manager in the preparation of budgets and forecasts.
• Achieve budgeted targets in all laboratory related areas and projects.
• Must be proactive in all aspects of safety and encourage teamwork within the Team.
• Demonstrate a strong commitment to the enforcement of environmental and safety programs.
• Ensure that all duties are performed safely and in compliance with all government regulations as well as company policies.

The successful candidate will possess the following key criteria:

• Recognized Metallurgist / Chemical Engineering tertiary/degree qualifications.
• 5-10 years mining experience as a Mill / Plant Metallurgist preferably with precious metals flotation processes.
• Madya Certification for operational supervision in a mineral processing plant to National competency standards.
• Demonstrated skills in report writing, spreadsheets, databases, costing systems, budgets and forecasts.
• Plant start-up experience will be favourably viewed.
